For a podcast people can listen to without effort, one thing counts in the end: how your voice sounds. Echo off bare walls, ventilation hum in the background or the street outside the window is not something any editing software removes afterwards. Which is why the room decides more about the result than the microphone standing in it.
What a podcast actually needs
Hunting for the right microphone is where almost everyone starts, and it is the wrong first question. An expensive microphone in an echoing living room sounds worse than a cheap one in a treated room. The room first, then the microphone, then everything else.
After that the list is short: one microphone per person, headphones for everyone, and something that records each voice separately. Separate tracks are where hobby and craft part company. How a recording runs
The levels are set before you arrive. You sit down, get a short walkthrough and press record. There is no vision mixer in the room: nobody sits beside you, nobody interrupts, and you stop whenever you like.
After the session your raw files are in the cloud within 24 hours. Editing, cut-downs and an intro can be added to your booking — but they do not have to be.
Audio only, or picture from the start?
That decision belongs before the first episode, not after the twentieth. Let the cameras run from the beginning and the same recording can go on YouTube later, with cut-downs taken out of it. What a podcast costs
The recording is the smaller item. What costs is everything after it: the edit, the intro, the cover, hosting, and the time every episode eats before it goes online. Underestimate that and you stop somewhere between episode six and ten.
